What We Do
MANDATE OF SAPZ PROGRAM IN KADUNA
The Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) project in Kaduna State aims to create an integrated agro-industrial ecosystem that fosters the transformation of the agricultural sector into a modern, business-oriented industrial complex. This initiative seeks to enhance agricultural productivity through the modernization of farming techniques, the adoption of advanced technologies, and the optimization of traditional practices.
By focusing on production, processing, distribution, and marketing with both continental and global reach, the SAPZ project will catalyze structural transformation, positioning Kaduna as a hub for sustainable agricultural development, value chain integration, and economic growth. The mandate of this project is to accelerate the diversification and industrialization of agriculture, thereby improving livelihoods, creating jobs, and driving economic prosperity in the state.

KEY VALUE CHAIN
MAIZE/ GINGER/ TOMATOES
Located in Nigeria’s northern region, Kaduna State is pivotal in the nation’s agricultural sector, leading in the cultivation of maize and ginger, and ranking second in tomato production, accounting for these crops being the programs key value chain. These crops not only bolster the state’s economy but significantly contribute to Nigeria’s food security and agro-industrial landscape.
Maize stands as one of the most cultivated crops, benefitting from the regions favourable agro-climatic conditions. Southern Kaduna is renowned as the epicenter of ginger cultivation in Nigeria, contributing significantly to the country’s status as the world’s second largest ginger producer, while the state also stands as the leading producer of tomatoes in Nigeria, with an annual production of approximately 2.3 million tonnes.
The SAPZ initiative will ensure the provision of agricultural inputs, promote modern farming techniques and facilitate market access to ensure that farmers receive fair returns on their produce. These interventions aim to revitalize the agricultural sector, improve livelihoods, and position Kaduna State as a hub for agro-industrial development in Nigeria.

Key Features
Infrastructure Development
This involves the development of necessary infrastructure such as roads, power supply, water, and processing facilities. This helps overcome challenges associated with inadequate infrastructure in rural areas.
Clusters of Agribusinesses
The program adopts a cluster approach, bringing together various agricultural value chain actors in one location. This includes farmers, processors, input suppliers, and other stakeholders, creating synergies and fostering collaboration.
Access to Finance
The SAPZ initiative aims to improve access to finance for agribusinesses operating in Kaduna State. This involves collaboration with financial institutions and the establishment of funding mechanisms to support agricultural enterprises.
Technology Transfer
Through technology transfer, the initiative provides a platform for the transfer of modern agricultural technologies and best practices to farmers and processors, enhancing productivity and product quality.
Job Creation
By creating jobs in the state, this is expected to have a positive impact on rural development by creating employment opportunities, reducing poverty, and promoting inclusive growth.
Market Linkages
The zones facilitate market linkages for agricultural products, ensuring that farmers in Kaduna State have a reliable market for their produce. Helping to reduce post-harvest losses and improve the income of farmers.
